UBL Naming and Design Rules Subcommittee Report Mark Crawford OASIS UBL NDR SC vice-chair 18 November 2002 Opening plenary of F2F #6 Menlo Park, USA

Current NDR SC members Bill Burcham Mavis Cournane (editor) Mark Crawford (vice-chair) Fabrice Desré Arofan Gregory Jessica Glace Michael Grimley Eduardo Gutentag Kris Ketels Eve Maler (chair) Sue Probert Lisa Seaburg Gunther Stuhec Paul Thorpe

What does the NDR SC do, again? Charter: –“Recommend to the TC rules and guidelines for normative- form schema design, instance design, and markup naming, and write and maintain documentation of these rules and guidelines” We now have more kinds of outputs –Position papers for internal idea exploration –“Focus papers” for ideas that are ready for external review –NDR document as the main vehicle for conveying the rules –Separate rules documents (so far only the code list rules) Our “current documents” archive shows the latest documents that are ready for external consumption

Work done since F2F #5 Continuous NDR document improvements – V18 now out Worked NDR position on Containership Continued work on Identifier position paper Created new Nillability position paper Revised decision on Global vs. Local

Topics For the Week NDR Document Containership Identifier Nillibility Inclusion of other schemas (i.e. ASN.1) Versioning Needs Analysis CCT Module Handcrafting Embedded Documentation Inclusion of Ancilliary Documents Inclusion of other schemas (i.e. ASN.1) Identify remaining work items Prioritize work Review Action Items Develop Work Plan through next F2F Relationship with ATG

Most Important… Progress the NDR Document –Ensure that the NDR document completely incorporates previous decisions, that the doc indicates open issues, that the doc addresses all aspects of XSD that must be standardized to ensure consistent UR and UBL 80/20 schema development, and and that comments received to date have been disposed of

Almost as Important Determine new leadership arrangement

Thanks! Questions? Mark Crawford
