Works Cited Page

Overview: Your Works Cited page is where you will list all the articles/books/websites/etc you will use in your paper. If you decide NOT to use a source, you MUST delete it from your WC page. Warning: if you don’t follow all these instructions IN ORDER, your WC page will be wrong, and I will not take your WC page until it is perfect.

What if I already have a Works Cited page? You can skip the Easy Bib directions if you feel that your citations are correctly set up. Each citation must be in MLA format. If in doubt, ask. You must still read through this power point to ensure your Works Cited is correct.

A perfectly formatted Works Cited page will:  Be evenly double spaced, with no extra spaces  Be alphabetized by the FIRST word of the entry no matter WHAT the word is.  Have a hanging indent for EACH entry. DO NOT DO THIS MANUALLY!  Say Works Cited centered and written just like this.  Include ALL of your article sources. You should have at least three.  Be in the same font point  Have titles of books, magazines, newspaper, websites in italics.  Have author names set up with last name, first name. See example.

Examples of properly formatted entries "Achievement Gap." Education Week. Editorial Projects in Education, 3 Aug Web. 17 May Kinsler, Josh. "School Discipline: A Source Or Salve For The Racial Achievement Gap?* School Discipline: A Source Or Salve For The Racial Achievement Gap?" International Economic Review 54.1 (2013): EBSCO MegaFILE. Web. 17 May Mathews, Jay. "Aiming to Even the Scores; Arlington Educators Join Coalition to Study Achievement Gap." The Washington Post: 0. Jul ProQuest. Web. 17 May Robbins, Alexandra. The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth. New York: Hyperion, Print. Please keep reading!!!!!

Materials: Open a brand new Word document. Get out all your article citations. Open a Word Document  View the Header/Footer.  Type in your first and last name, hour.  Close the Header/Footer.  Center the cursor and type Works Cited. Do not make it bigger, bold, underlined, or anything else.  Hit “Enter” once.  Put the cursor to the left of the page (un-center).  Save this!  Minimize your Works Cited and move to the next PowerPoint Slide.

To begin getting the citations correct: Go to Easy Bib on the Internet  Once on Easy Bib, choose the right tab (database, website, etc) You should enter the information requested. You may need to add information like author, date published, etc. Enter what info you received from your source. You may need to pull the article up again. If you cut and paste a URL address into Easy Bib, it may not set it up correctly. For example, websites all have a main title for it (just like a book). Easy Bib usually puts in the wrong one. Ask if you have questions.

Example citation: I entered the following website address into EasyBib: 38/clinton-on-climate-change.html 38/clinton-on-climate-change.html I had to add the author’s, the date published, and the source (New York Times) before I got the full citation: Revkin, Andrew. "Clinton on Climate Change - Video Library - The New York Times." Video Library Home Page - The New York Times. New York Times, May Web. 27 Oct

Example citation: Notice the indent? Copy and paste this to your Works Cited page. You will need to do a hanging indent and double space for EACH ENTRY. HIGHLIGHT ALL ENTRIES and do the following: Click on the paragraph arrow (it’s under the bullet option) Under Indentation, click on drop down box and choose hanging indent Under Space, click on drop down box and choose double Hit OKAY DO NOT DO ANY OF THIS MANUALLY!!!! YOU WILL SCREW UP THE FORMATTING! Do this for all of your sources. An example Works Cited is on the following slide. Look at it, please.

Does your page look like the example? Check:  Is it evenly double spaced, with no extra spaces?  Is it all alphabetized together? You should alphabetize by the FIRST word of the entry no matter WHAT the word is.  Is there a hanging indent?  Does it say Works Cited at the top? Did you spell it right, and capitalize it right?  Does it include ALL of your article sources? You should have at least three.  Everything should be the same font point  Titles of books, magazines, newspaper, websites should be in italics.  Author names should be last name, first name. See example.

Remove hyperlinks: YOU DON’T NEED WEB ADDRESSES. Get rid of these!

Once you are finished: Double check and have a peer check your Works Cited page. Raise your hand to ask to print. I will give you the okay to print. You may ONLY print if I give you the say so. Once you are done, you may move onto the next power point.
