Learning Target: I can learn how to protect myself from cyberbullies. Success Criterion: I can identify 3 types of cyberbullying. I can identify 2 ways to deal with a cyberbully.
Bullying happens… whenever someone uses his or her power unfairly and repeatedly to hurt someone. Bully Behavior Hurting someone’s body or possessions. Hurting someone’s feelings. Hurting someone’s friendships.
So what is cyberbullying? bullying behaviors that are initiated on an electronic device, such as, a cell phone, tablet or computer. Cyberbullying IS bullying! The only difference is that it happens online. Cyberbullying is never okay. It is just as serious as “real-life” bullying.
Types of Cyberbullying Flaming: fighting online with angry messages or inappropriate language Harassment: sending rude/inappropriate messages/photos over and over Denigration: “Dissing” online, gossip/rumors Impersonation: pretending to be someone and then causing problems for that person Outing or Tricking: sharing secrets, embarrassing a person

What if this happens to me? You have some options: Block the person. Log off Report the abuse to the website. *If you are bullied by , do not delete the . Show it to an adult. Do NOT continue the communication.

Sending personal information, like your address or pictures/videos of yourself. Bothering someone by sending repeated s.
When should you NOT send an ? When angry, upset, or highly emotional. In retaliation to something someone else did, said, or wrote. In class or when you should be doing school-related activities.
School Reminders Remember: your school is NOT private. Before you send an , ask yourself: Would I feel ok if my teachers, principals, or my parents were to read this ? If the answer is NO, then you shouldn’t be sending the .
