Page 2 Zonta International (ZI) Advocacy Definition  Advocacy is the expression of support for or opposition to a cause, argument or proposal.  Advocacy may include influencing laws, legislation or attitudes.  Zonta advocacy is an action taken in “the public interest” or for “the greater good” with respect to advancing the status of women & girls & their human rights.

Page 3 ZI Advocacy Policy Highlights 1.ZI, districts, & clubs (We) are urged to express about & become involved in issues which: Improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health & professional status of women Promote justice & universal respect for human rights & fundamental freedoms 2.We are encouraged to support proposed legislation that advances the Objects & Resolutions of ZI, such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women & the Millennium Development Goals & updates

Page 11 Part Two – November 25, 2013  All clubs will take part in one common action, all members requested to wear orange UN chose orange to draw attention to VAW Ribbons will be available through ZI Store  Clubs are asked to visualize the reported number of victims of VAW in their community & stage a public / media event

Page steps to Participate in “Zonta says NO” 2.Ask your District Chair of UN, or Advocacy & Service to assist you, invite them to a meeting 3.Every story, every activity will be recognized, tell your story at or If you do not have a club activities on VAW, schedule a meeting to concentrate on the topic Work with your club service & advocacy chair ID who is working on VAW in your community  Tell them about Zonta’s activities – maybe they’re interested in working with us  Invite them to the meeting

Page steps to Participate in “Zonta says NO” 5.If you do not have a fundraising purpose take VAW Try to find strong partners within your community 6.Find out how many victims of VAW are registered in your community and who is working on that issue Let them inform you on a regular basis 7.Contact other Zonta clubs within your Area/District to compare results, coordinate actions Concentrate an Area meeting on VAW Contact supporters in your community & get other organizations to join as well

Share with your club & communityZI website 10.Support ZISVAW by donating at 11.Make sure every Zontian in your club has an orange ribbon to wear

Further suggestions will soon be available at Connect with Clubs & organizations in your community working on VAW; tell them about your activities, ZI activities! 14.Contact media at least 3-5 weeks before your event, explain your club & ZI VAS activities. Ask they be prepared for reporting on November 25. You may receive advice & support making your action even more powerful
