Introduction As business teachers we are charged with the responsibility of grooming tomorrows future managers. Our environment is one that is a highly sophisticated audio visual environment. Unfortunately often times we bore our learner with too many content. Lets take a look at this video. Ross_Lecture_Rehearsal.flv https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Avb5P2PhixI It is becoming more and more difficult to motivate a class with just chalk and talk or a textbook only. Pupil already have business education because they experience it every day outside the classroom. We, as business teachers, need to take up this challenge and recognize the importance of teaching aids in stimulating our pupils.

This type of learner is one who learns best by watching... The Visual Learner This type of learner is one who learns best by watching...

Theorist views on "The Visual Learner" A pictorial device used to explain the interrelationships of the different types of audio-visual media, as well as their various "positions" in the learning process... Dale’s Cone of Learning states that students retain a certain percentage of information accounting to what they see.

Edgar Dale Cone of Learning Experience NB. We used a bright colour to highlight our diagram. Visual aids should not be used by itself but should be used to enhance other learning techniques.

A Definition of "The Visual Learner" Gloria Moskowitz-Sweet' Definition of the Visual Learner:- ... someone who “needs to see it to know it...” Gloria Moskowitz-Sweet Licensed clinical social worker and coordinator of Parents Place Express

Attributes of a Visual Learner (1) Very Colour Oriented. Focuses on individual while they are talking. Write things down as a way of remembering. Use his hands when he or she talks.

Attributes of a Visual Learner (2) Hold images in his hand. Often misinterepret words. Notice details. Easily distracted by noise.

Catering for Visual Learners Caterings for Visual Learners can take many forms... Moskowitz-Sweet offers a few tips on how parents and educators can help a visual learner succeed.

Tips on helping Visual Learners Write down what needs to be learned. Use illustrations, charts, diagrams, and slides to reinforce learning. Try not to talk to learners from the other room. Let them use coloured markers and highlighters. Colour coded notes, toys, and other possessions. Provide a quiet place to study.

Using Visual Learning to teach a Subject Area In teaching, it is important to:- Cater for most if not all student learning styles. Use visual aids to help students understand and grasp concepts of the lesson.

...An Example for Business... In Principles of Business, if the topic on the Chain of Command in an Organization is being taught, it would be best to illustrate the concept for the students. By doing this, the students can vividly visualize the organization’s Chain of Command. The student is then therefore grasping the concept more efficiently. thus learning takes place with the student generating his/ her own understanding of the topic.

...An Example for Accounts... In Principles of Accounts, if the topic on Balance Sheet is being taught, it would be best to illustrate the format of a Balance Sheet so the students can have an idea of what a Balance Sheet looks like. In doing so, they can familiarize themselves with the process and attempt examples to understand the concept being taught.

Conclusion Though visual aids are helpful in stimulating pupils' participation in the field of Business Education, without the appropriate manipulation of the teacher, they would be futile.
