Teacher Conferences Once we are back in the classroom and we begin to create the Powerpoints, Ms. Barben will be meeting with each student once at some point over the seven work days to conference on your project in progress. There will be a written conference form completed that outlines what has been done well, identifies what is missing, and identifies what it is to be corrected. This is to be attached to your final project with the grade sheet.

Block Day: Wed, Sept 18 or Thurs, Sep 19, Library for ALL Classes Class: Instruction by Librarian Discuss project---introduction Difference between a website and database on wiki Go to noodletools, sign in, and start. Open CIA World Factbook. Do United States Research and cut and paste into word document and then put into noodletools. Do their country research into CIA World Factbook and cut and paste into word document and then into noodletools. Homework: Finish CIA World Factbook research, highlight information to use for powerpoint, and finish CIA World Factbook sources in noodletools.

Friday, Sept 20, Library for ALL Classes Librarian will go over how to use ABC Clio Database and BBC Website. Do research on your assigned African or Middle Eastern country for all the different sections on ABC Clio. Cut and paste into a word document. Homework: Put each of the different articles from ABC Clio into noodletools and highlight the information that can be used in the powerpoint.

Monday, Sept 23: Library for Periods 1, 4, and 5; COW in classroom for Periods 6 and 7 Do all the research for your assigned Middle East or African country on BBC website. Cut and paste the information into a word document. Enter all the different articles from BBC into noodletools as separate sources. Homework: Finish entering BBC articles into noodletools and highlight all the information from your BBC research that can be used in the powerpoint.

Tuesday, Sept 24: COW in Classroom Class: Ms. Barben is going over how to do the parenthetical citing in the powerpoint slides and you will be using your to completed noodletools bibliography to do this. To help you with your organization, we suggest you create a slide (or two or three) for each of the following categories. You will most likely have between two to seven slides per section. Looking at categories C through H, assess whether your nation would be labeled as developing, developed, or less developed. Use evidence from class discussion/notes and your research to support this label. Use must use at least THREE categories for your evaluation. Monday, Sept 30: COW in Classroom Classwork Continued and Homework Individual/Homework: Complete K) Contemporary Issue As discussed in class, this section will ask you to dive more deeply into the research of your nation. Using the BBC Country Overviews, ABC-CLIO’s History & Contemporary Issues tabs, and the CIA World Factbook’s Transnational Issues section, complete research of ALL of the major issues occurring in your nation. Once you have a clear understanding of them all, choose ONE issue that you think is the most significant or surprised/bothered you the most. Make connections between your nations’ statistics and the causes/effects of your chosen issue. Also, to fully understand your issue, you are required to find one more source beyond ABC-CLIO and the CIA website. For example, find an article or current event from CNN, The Washington Post, New York Times, Associated Press, etc. BECOME AN EXPERT ON YOUR ISSUE. ______Summary of Chosen Issue: 5 Ws, How, Effects ______ Clearly present the issue in your presentation in two columns of Causes and Effects.---T Chart ______What surprised or bothered you the most and why? ______Male at least THREE connections between the nation’s statistics and the causes and effects of your chosen issue THIS SHOULD BE A MINIMUM OF FOUR WELL DEVELOPED PARGRAPHS.

Tuesday, Oct 1: COW in Classroom Individual: Complete L) Sources Slide Throughout your presentation, you should be creating parenthetical citations to direct anyone viewing your slides to your source of information. For example, if you found your population statistics on the CIA website, it should be clearly stated on the Population Statistics slide. On the final slide of your presentation, you should present a clear list of your sources (think bibliography or works cited page). You are required to have at least 4 sources: 1) ABC-CLIO Database 2) CIA World Factbook website 3) BBC website 4) Source(s) of your choice Every article/source used in powerpoint must be in the bibliography.

Tuesday, Oct 1: COW in Classroom Classwork Continued and Homework Individual/Homework: Go back and edit all your parenthetical citing checking to make sure each slide is done correctly and completely. Finish any incomplete sections. Tomorrow class time will be used for a pair edit of the complete powerpoints, making any final corrections, and printing up hard copies to turn in. Wednesday, Oct 2: COW in Classroom Pairs: You will be matched up with a partner to read and edit their powerpoint. After writing down feedback, will discuss with partner. Rest of Class: Make revisions. Homework: Make sure First Unit Notebook is complete and in order. It will be collected tomorrow. You need a new binder for tomorrow as we will start the Middle East Unit on Thursday, October 3.
