Summer Brain GAIN in Manassas! Hot summer months at the Manassas branch were spent learning how to recycle and planting a new garden. For six weeks, Club members grew a variety of produce including tomatoes, cantaloupe, lettuce and jalapeno peppers. More than 100 vegetables were produced! BGC Garden... We’re talking about plant Survival

Summer Brain GAIN in Manassas! Kids love bubbles and this summer we made homemade giant bubbles! Not only was it fun, but Club members also learned about the science of bubbles. Now that’s “Fun with a Purpose!” How do Giant Bubbles Work?

Summer Brain GAIN in Manassas! Campers used old newspaper to build sculptures. Before getting their hands dirty, Club members discussed various forms of sculptures. They measured flour, water and salt to create the paste for the project. Once the sculptures were dry they finished the project by painting them. Let’s Recycle using Paper Mache

Germantown Branch Hosts Annual Chant & Cheer Competition The summer camp chant & cheer competition has been a tradition at Germantown Branch since Staff members and club members get into the spirit working together to come up with their routine. Teams have one week to develop, rehearse and perfect their routine. On the last day of camp they put it all on the line, performing for their peers and a panel of judges. Groups competed against one another in a high spirited competition. Cheers are graded on creativity, clarity, organization, use of props, and spirit. The winning team earns bragging rights until next summer! Click Here to view the performances.

Grammy Camp On Saturday, August 29, 20 high school students from FBR participated in a day-long workshop to explore various aspects of the music business. Watch the music video to see a sample of our Club members at work. All components of the project including the music, lyrics and video were created by the teens. We want to thank The Grammy Foundation and Best Buy for all their support!

STEM at Culmore This summer, Culmore Branch has been busy with STEM Programming, kicking off the summer with Hands-on Science with the Pepco STEM club. Working with partners from Oracle, youth have learned to program with Alice 3, a 3-D game creation program based on JAVA.

Back to School Style Club members at Dunbar Alexandria- Olympic Boys & Girls Club received free back to school haircuts and manicures. The kids were joined by officers from the Alexandria Police Department. Thank you SunTrust Bank and Safeway for helping to make this a great event!
