Scheme of Roosevelt street

Situation description A dangerous spot is between street crossroads. There is a nursery school, basic school and opposite there is a driving school with cars parked in front. Both crossroads are relatively intricate.

Problem description The drivers are not warned to pay more attention because of possible presence of children in the area. There is a higher risk of children´s injuries there. The drivers pay more attention to the cars parking opposite both nursery and basic schools than to the children running around.

Change To highlight to dangerous section of the road in colour. To build a deceleration pad (speed table) in the whole area of the street where both nursery and basic schools are situated.

Change To warn of children´s presence by road signs in front of this area. To level the pavement and the road. To build a traffic island in order to decrease the road width. To distinguish both the nursery and basic schools from other buildings. To reserve a parking space for driving school cars out of the main road.

Estimated results of the change Colours will draw driver´s attention. Deceleration pad (speed table) will force drivers to slow down. The levelling of the pavement and the road will force drivers to pay more attention in an atypical situation in which they are not so self-confident. (Atypical road sings may have the same effect.)

Estimated results of the change The building of traffic island will narrow the road, which will result in slow driving. The removal of parked cars will allow drivers to pay full attention to children running around and not to cars. The highlighted nursery and basic schools will warn drivers of children´s presence from a long distance.

Thank you for attention
