SEITE Workpackage 4 - Sea-floor geology compilation and harmonisation - Status - Kristine Asch, Pawel Gdaniec, Alex Müller EMODnet 2

SEITE First of all …. Many greetings from Pawel Gdaniec with whom many of you had good contact

SEITE Overview Source: No MARE/2012/10: LOT No. 2-Geology, Technical Tender Form, WP4 Quaternary and sub-Quaternary at a 1 : scale - age - lithology - faults - (genesis) according to One-Geology-Europe and INSPIRE data specifications

SEITE WP 4 - Necessary input: Interpreted information on the sea-floor geology (bedrock + Quaternary geology) including the lithology and stratigraphy of the geology of the regional seas included in the proposal. Objective To compile and harmonise all available sea-bed geology (outcrop/Quaternary?) and sub-Quaternary) information at a scale of 1:250,000. Source: No MARE/2012/10: LOT No. 2-Geology, Technical Tender Form, WP4 if available!

SEITE WP4 – Achievements to date 1. Inventory of available data 2. Development of a procedure to collect and compile data according to INSPIRE standards (data model and geology classi- fications) 3. Create and distribute Guidelines for the data „delivery“ 4. Collect data sets (pre-Quaternary) and include into the GIS) and adapt to the coastline (on-going) 5. Starting collecting Quaternary data (Deadine 30. Sept 2014)

SEITE The WP 4 Guidelines for semantic transformation (to One-Geology- Europe/INSPIRE Standards), Includes the vocabulary (+ definitions) – Age (geochronology) – Lithology – Structures/faults – Genesis (event environment, environmental process) Explantions the procedure to transform our data to OneGeology-Europe/INSPIRE standards

SEITE Road map WP 4 Start phaseConsolidation phaseConvergence phase Create and distribute Standards + guidelines for two layers Collect data from WP 4 partners Converge into two layers Adapt to coastline and bathymetry Check data and start harmoni -sation Harmonize and generalize Solve boundary conflicts Review by partners, Revise two GIS layers Make data available at EMODnet portal We are here

SEITE Workplan 2014

SEITE WP 4: 19 datasets on board and growing

SEITE WP 4 - Overview on scales of data sets received to date (pre-Quaternary)

SEITE WP 4 pre-Quaternary – status Lithology

SEITE WP 4 pre-Quaternary – status Age

SEITE WP 4 pre-Quaternary – status Faults

SEITE : 5 Million scale Compiled from larger scale data Status: 2005 Source: Asch,K. (2005): IGME BGR IGME 5000: WP 4 fall-back option for the pre-Quaternary

SEITE WP 4:open points Not all classifications received according to INSPIRE standards Pre-Quaternary data sets not yet complete Geomorphology vocabulary not yet available (Task WP lead BGR) Coastline: Russia Barents Sea and White Sea: In EMODNET standard coastline strongly generalized – islands and intricate coast not sufficiently displayed

SEITE Thank you very much for your contributions to-date. A good time for questions!

SEITE Malta: Questions for WP 4 At Malta meeting: Initiation of Working group for marine geomorphology/landforms and features (cold seeps, actibe faults, submarine volcanoes, mud volcanioes, scoring marks etc) Synergy of WP 4 and WP 6 Members: Germany: Kristine Asch (coordinator) Ireland: Maria Judge Denmark -Jørgen Overgaard Leth Italy - Andrea Fiorentino (Co-Cordinator) Norway: Harald Selboskar Odd Faroer – Lisa Cyprus - Zomenia Zomeni Russia: Daria Rryabchuk Portugal: Marisa Loureiro SwedenOla.Hallberg France :Paquet Fabien; Greece: Spain: Teresa Medialdea‚ Finland: Anu Kaskela Netherlands: Sytze van Heteren New marine crust + Quat basalts – to be displayed on pre-quat layer, too
