3 Works vs. Office  The difference between Works and Office is our target market. Works has been designed with you the Home User in mind.  It is easy and productive to use.  It eliminates the confusion of which program to use to accomplish all that you need to do in your busy day.

4  Works provides convenient solutions to everyday home tasks such as writing letters; creating, storing, and printing lists; managing personal finances; creating and sending greeting cards, invitations and messages, as well as many other household computer tasks.  Works is not a business solution. 12 Installation We have made an effort to meet the following goals for Works setup: Simplify Setup to require as little input as possible. Simplify Setup to require as little input as possible. 13 The First Step  Before any part of the setup can take place, Works first checks to make sure that the Windows Installer is present on your system.  If it is not present, Works installs it. It is a part of the operating system. For more information about the Windows Installer, please refer to

14 The Next Step Internet Explorer 5.0  Works then checks to see if the right version of Internet Explorer is installed.  Internet Explorer 5.0 is required for the operation of the program.

15 Shared Programs  The shared programs such as Clip Gallery and Draw come next, followed by Works core programs.  All shared components must install on the same drive where Windows is installed. In most cases, that would be drive C.

19 The Task Launcher Makes It Easy!  The Works Task Launcher lets you get started on a variety of tasks.  Easy-to-use wizards and templates make the job easier.

20 Three Ways to Get the Job Done  You can use the Task Launcher to select a task and Works will open the program that is best for doing that task.  You can select a program on your own and either start a task or work from scratch.  You can select a project that you had previously done in Works from the History.

21 Selecting a Task  Selecting a task from the Task Launcher opens the best program to do the job with.  No more thinking about which is the right program to use to get the job done.

22 Selecting a Program  You can select the Programs tab to list all of the programs that are integrated in Works.  In Suite, that would include all of the Suite applications.

24 The History Tab  The Task Launcher History tab gives you quick and easy access to all of the projects you previously created in Works.  The History can be sorted by date, task, and the program you created it in, as well as the project’s name.

25 Interactive Help Works has many useful features for finding information about how to accomplish tasks

26 The Answer Wizard  On the Help menu, click Works Help.  In the box at the top of the Help pane, type a question that describes what you want to find.  Click Search and the Answer Wizard displays a list of related Help topics.

27 Index and Contents  You can search the Help Index and contents for easy answers to your complex questions.  Works also has tool tips to help you with the toolbar icons.

30 Wizards and Templates  Wizards guide you through the creation of a particular type of document, such as party invitations.  Templates are preformatted for a specific purpose, such as a newsletter or resume.  This gives you a head start creating your document by giving you formatting and basic text.

31 Can’t Find the Right Template?  Works makes it easy to create your own templates.  You just create a document that you want to use as a template and use the File Save As option to save the document as a template.  When you want to use your new template you can find it in the Launcher under Tasks, Personal Templates.

32 Creating a Winning Resume Works offers four different styles of resumes for you to work with and offers sample text to help you create a truly winning document.

33 Spreadsheets and Databases  Works makes keeping track of your finances, belongings, and lists very easy to do.  There are wizards and templates to help with all of these tasks and more.

34 Works Makes It Easy to Not Use Paper  Lists, phone books, and mailing information are now easy to keep and use on your computer with Works  No more file cabinets overflowing with data.

35 Mail Merge Made Easy Works makes merging information into your documents easy with wizards.

36 Data Sources for Merging Data Source: In a mail merge, the data source is a file that contains fields, such as names, addresses, and other information that are to be merged into a document.

43 Using the Spreadsheet to Track Useful Information  The Spreadsheet Wizard creates a spreadsheet with the choices you make.  You can now perform the same tasks that you would in any spreadsheet. You can type text or numbers to create a list, use the information to create a chart, and perform calculations. The Spreadsheet Wizard makes it easier than ever to create special project lists!!

44 Works Makes it Easy to Share Information  You can send messages with Web- based HotMail or Outlook Express.  You can attach a word processing document.  You can use the Windows Address Book to make a contact group for distribution and mail merges.

45 Using Outlook Express is easy from the Task Launcher! Just click & Internet.

46 Creating a New HotMail Account Works lets you easily create a new HotMail account or read your HotMail right from the Task Launcher.
