The territory of Alytus district makes 1404 sq.km The territory of Alytus district consists of 11 neighourhoods. The major part of Alytus land extends on the eminence of South Lithuania (so called Dzūkija), which is dimidiated by the Nemunas river.

These divisions according to their competence analyse applications of persons, prepare the projects of Council decisions, participate in meetings of Working groups, advise the mayor and the Administration director according to their competence.
