African Issues Awareness Poster You will create an awareness poster about one of ten different issues facing Africa today. This will count as a short term grade… the same as a webquest so we expect the same caliber of work as a webquest. Posters done in pencil or pen alone will not be graded.

What is an awareness poster? It shows the scope of the problem by showing statistics and giving information. It catches peoples attention and is visually pleasing. Here are some examples…

African issues include: 1.HIV/AIDS 2.Ebola 3.Terrorism 4.Famine 5.Child Soldiers 6.Government Corruption 7.Conflict Mining 8.Lack of education/opportunity 9.Rebel Armies 10.Refugees

When creating your poster, you need to : First, read the article you are given. Take notes as you read. Look for important information, statistics, and quotes that will catch peoples’ attention. Next, bring your notes up to your teacher to show that you are ready to create your poster. If you feel you want even more information about your topic, you may also ask to get out your cell phone or go to one of the computers to get even more information. On the white piece of paper given to you, create your poster be sure to include: A clever/catchy title A visual At least one statistic. (#’s or %’s that are shocking) Enough information to get the point across about how much this issue is affecting Africa Color Neatness and pride in your work Nothing too “cutesy.” Make sure it is creative but also captures the seriousness of the issue The poster is not a summary of the article, it is explaining the issue IN GENERAL. You are using the article to gather information for your poster. If there is a specific story or examples in your article use them to show evidence of the issue!***Remember: this counts as much as a webquest so we should see that amount of work for full credit.
