Welcome to the Pre-Engineering Program at Leestown Middle School

Mission: Provide students with a challenging instructional program focused on math, science, engineering and technology during the middle school years. Our Pre- Engineering program will specifically prepare students for the Lafayette Pre-Engineering Program as well as other advanced programs in Fayette County. Leestown is immersed in cultural diversity and the program will also reflect the diversity of our school.

Leestown Pre-Engineering program was built to be the feeder program for the Lafayette Pre-Engineering Program. Students who succeed in our program at Leestown are automatically awarded a spot in Lafayette’s Pre-Engineering Program provided they are successful on the year-end Algebra placement exam. Lafayette High School

Highlights of the Program Students are taught at an advanced rigorous pace in all core content classes. Students are on an accelerated math track and have the opportunity to take Advanced Geometry in the 8th Grade. Each student has access to a netbook for use when needed for their curriculum. Students will have an Engineering Design class at all three grade levels where they learn to use the engineering design process and develop critical thinking skills. Technology is used more frequently in all classes. Robotics & Coding is taught in all three grade levels. Students learn Adobe Photoshop Elements and ArtRage in the Digital Art classes. Leestown Pre-Engineering students receive priority admittance into Lafayette’s High School Pre-Engineering program.

They also participate in National History Day. This includes a research paper, an annotated bibliography in MLA style, and a webpage created with Weebly. For the school year, we have plans to enter students in the Lexus Eco Challenge. Teams tackle environmental issues & create practical solutions while competing for scholarships and grants.
