PROJECT: ONLINE EMPLOYEE SURVEY KEY ACTIVITIES SCOPE OF PROJECT Capstone Team JKL (from left to right): Capstone Advisor Merle McGee, Joy Lindsay, Kimberly Tortora, Kirsten Singleton, Lani Hart & Jane Schuldiner WHO IS LATINOJUSTICE PRLDEF (LJP)? Founded in 1972,LJP is a civil rights organization focused on defending the civil and human rights of Latino communities through impact litigation, advocacy, and education. LJP has served tens of thousands of United States citizens, immigrants, and non-Latinos whose rights are protected by the precedents set and behaviors modified through the litigation, advocacy, and legal education outreach of LJP. STATEMENT OF NEED: LJP is seeking a way to objectively capture the experiences and viewpoints of its employees, which will enable management to make informed decisions & aid in expansion efforts. *p <.05, **p <.01, ***p <.001 OVERCOMING CHALLENGES ONLINE EMPLOYEE SURVEY DEVELOPMENT Survey Questions Survey Software Design And Reporting LEARNINGS/KEY FINDINGS 89% of staff reported that they have a good understanding of administrative procedures and processes. There is an opportunity to improve internal communications. Staff desire: Additional Resources. Formal Feedback. Structured Supervision. RECOMMENDATIONS SWOT ANALYSIS  From reviewing LJP’s strategic plan and input from managers, we were able to complete a SWOT analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats relevant to the project. LITERATURE REVIEW  We conducted an in-depth literature review on the areas we identified as areas we felt we felt we needed to explore to understand more about the type of tool we were going to develop for LJP. STAFF INTERVIEWS  We conducted staff interviews with all 19 staff to get staff input and capture employee voice around the tool development, ONLINE EMPLOYEE SURVEY DEVELOPMENT  We then researched and designed the final online employee survey in SurkeyMonkey and pilot tested it. Survey Implementatio n Clear & Continuous Communication Strategy Connect Data Collection to Long-term Objectives Guide Data Analysis with a Plan Customize Reporting to the Audience Use Survey in the Future 47 questions 30 minutes Annual “When I am able to use my voice to raise issues and participate in decision making I am happier in my job and management makes better decisions.” Employee Voice Organizational Growth Internal Communication Allocate Staff Time Respond to Survey Results As LJP continues to work on improving general internal communication, including developing written policies and procedures, it will be important to focus specific attention on developing a communications plan for the online employee survey. As LJP embarks upon the recommendations of this project, limited staff time will be a challenge. LJP will need to consider alternative options to completing initiatives while preserving staff time, such as utilizing interns or pro bono consultants when possible. As action on some findings may require large investments of resources, responding to survey results may be challenging. LJP will need to acknowledge results, while being transparent on the feasibility and timeline of addressing survey findings.
