HOME DEFINITION HOW TO USE ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES CONCLUSION BACK NEXT DEFINITION ATM (Automatic Teaching Machine) is designed to create computer-based English item-banks, focusing on four components: (1) VIBE (Vocabulary Item-Bank of English), (2) SIBE (Structure Item Bank of English), RIBE (Reading Item Bank of English) and, (4) LIBE (Listening Item Bank of English). ATM-VIBE is a component of ATM to create VIBE. The program was developed by the writer as a dissertation project (Hananto 2007). VIBE allows teachers to add or create their own questions to meet their specific needs.

HOME DEFINITION HOW TO USE ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES CONCLUSION BACK NEXT HOW TO USE To start VIBE, follow these steps: 1.Run the ATM.EXE file by double clicking it. 2.ATM opening screens will be displayed. 3.Type a user name and press the ENTER key. 4.Click the “Continue” button. 5.Select one/more topic(s). Use the vertical scroll bar to browse the table of contents. 6.Press the ENTER key to continue. 7.Modify the available options or just press ENTER to continue. 8.Answer the questions.

Among others are: 1.It is a freeware program 2.It can be used for teaching, testing, and research purposes 3.It can be used for listening, reading, structure, and vocabulary exercises 4.It offers various objective test formats 5.It can generate paper-based tests/exercises 6.It employs a data-based approach to creating vocabulary e-exercises.

HOME DEFINITION HOW TO USE ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES CONCLUSION BACK NEXT CONCLUSION ATM_VIBE is relatively a simple program, but it offers a unique contribution to the field of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) for creating a new vocabulary test format and for applying the open data-based approach to generating computer-based vocabulary exercises. It allows the user too quickly and easily created a vocabulary item bank.
