Presentation transcript:

South Africans celebrate Heritage Day which is on 24 September by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa. Various events are staged throughout the country to commemorate this day. With eleven official languages in South Africa on this day we get to perform different rituals to remember and embrace the cultures in our country. Initially on 24 of September the people of Kwa Zulu Natal celebrated this day as Shaka Day. Shaka was the ruler of the Zulu kingdom who played an important role in the lives of the Zulu people. Different cultural groups are: AmaZulu AmaXhosa Bavhenda Matsonga Afrikaaners Whites Bapedi Basotho Batswana AmaNdebele AmaSwati

We celebrate this day by dressing up in our different cultures, cook traditional food and sharing the food among everyone across all the different culture groups, we speak our mother tongues the whole day and go to celebration concerts where you would find local artists performing traditional dances and songs
