FEAR IN HISTORY By Emeraghi David, Sam Rodgman

Psychological Effects of Fear

Post Traumatic Stress  an emotional illness that develops as a result of a terribly frightening, life-threatening, or otherwise highly unsafe experience, re-experience the traumatic event or events in some way, tend to avoid places, people, or other things that remind them of the event (avoidance), and are exquisitely sensitive to normal life experiences (hyperarousal)

Emotion/Memory  Emotion- A complex pattern of changes, including physiological arousal, feelings, cognitive processes, and behavioral reactions, made in response to a situation perceived to be personally significant.  Memory- The mental capacity to encode, store, and retrieve information. (Added by Laura)

Desensitization  type of behavioral therapy used in the field of psychology to help effectively overcome phobias and other anxiety disorders. psychologyphobiasanxiety disorderspsychologyphobiasanxiety disorders  (Photo added by Laura)

Flooding  flooding is period of time in which there is an overflow of influencing ideals, like Halloween. (Photo added by Laura)

Modeling  from observing others one forms an idea of how new behaviors are performed, and on later occasions this coded information serves as a guide for action.

The History of Fear

The Red Scare  Within these two dates the country witnessed--not so much in rapid succession as concurrently a deadly flu epidemic, a strike wave of unparallel proportions, harsh suppression in some cases of those strikes, race riots, hyper-inflation, mass round-ups and deportations of foreign born citizens, expulsion of dually-elected officials from various offices in government, an incapacitated president, espionage laws, sedition laws and, of course, the advent of Prohibition and women's suffrage

Nuclear Warfare  The Atomic Bomb United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan, and the Japanese government surrendered to the United States and its allies. The nuclear age had truly begun with the first military use of atomic weapons. The nuclear bomb destroyed millions of lives and did damage that not only effected population, but also government, agriculture, and obviously economy as they now were in reconstruction

World War II  WWII was a global military conflict, the joining of what had initially been two separate conflicts. This global conflict split the majority of the world's nations into opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis powers. It involved the mobilization of over 100 million military personnel, making it the most widespread war in history, and placed the participants in a state of "total war", erasing the distinction between civil and military resources

Vietnam  Vietnam - "The conquest of Vietnam by France began in 1858 and was completed by It became part of French Indochina in Vietnam declared independence after World War II, but France continued to rule until its 1954 defeat by Communist forces under Ho Chi MINH. Under the Geneva Accords of 1954, Vietnam was divided into the Communist North and anti-Communist South. US economic and military aid to South Vietnam grew through the 1960s in an attempt to bolster the government, but US armed forces were withdrawn following a cease-fire agreement in Two years later, North Vietnamese forces overran the South reuniting the country under Communist rule. Despite the return of peace, for over a decade the country experienced little economic growth because of conservative leadership policies.

911  “Osama bin Laden himself claims that al Qaeda was solely responsible for 9/11. After the largest criminal investigation in history, the US government's 9/11 commission also concluded that al Qaeda was solely responsible for the attacks. Attributing the sole responsibility for 9/11 to al Qaeda then brings us to the larger question: what caused al Qaeda to launch the attacks?” (prospectmagazine.com) what i just put on here is word for word from the sight so just remember to paraphrase. While there are thousands of reasons as to why the attacks could have been made several have been given more credit such as: Radicalization caused by the afghan jihad, distorted readings of Islam texts, and among other reasons, the alienation of some Muslims. The events of 9/11 threw our country into a succession of questions as to what to do while keeping the peoples interest at heart. it affects us to this day as we are in a war that has lasted almost 7 years.
