Transferable practices or transferable attitudes Marta Szymczyk The Rural Development Foundation, Poland

Anything you do with or for the rural youth can be enough Rural Youth – research report, Stocznia 2011 Youth 2011 – government report on Polish youth show that the main problem of rural youth is boredom. Any offer like spare time activities, hobbies, events, sport, concerts, excursions will be welcome.

Some projects do work and the very similar ones do not Some specific conclusions according to the research: Young people dont believe in institutions They lack significant person to follow (generation gap, depopulation, migration) They dont involve in social life of community They dont have partner relationship with adults

Our experience (Close culture grant program, annual gathering of rural organizations) It is not enough to have an idea, model procedure, concept etc. Adults (incl. institutions, local organizations) are interested not in cooperation with the young. The best are those projects which let the youth involve from the very beginning (at the concept stage)

Transferable attitudes Significant characters (passionate, open- minded) to follow – leaders; Partner relationship (projects in which young people are responsible for action, and are not only beneficiaries or participants); Trust, confidence; Communicative skills; Local specific diagnosis is necessary

Thank you very much Marta Szymczyk The Rural development Foundation Budapest, November 2011
