Dopamine Generic Name Trade Name Class

Dopamine Generic Name – Dopamine Trade Name – Intropin Class – Sympathomimetic

Dopamine Indications

Dopamine 1. Symptomatic Bradycardia 2. Hemodynamic ally significant hypotension in the absence of hypovolemia 3. Carcinogenic or Septic Shock only after fluid administration: assess breath sounds first.

Dopamine Adult Dosage – 1 of

Dopamine Dosage Range (2-20 mcg/kg/min) Preperation: (if permitted not carried) Add 400 mg to 250 mL NS or Dextrose = 1600 mcg/mL

Dopamine Adult Dosage Continued

Dopamine Brady Cardia – Start at 5 mcg/Kg/Min Shock Cardiogenic or Septic (non- hypervolemic) – Bp < 70 systolic: start drip at 5mcg/kg/min – BP > 70 systolic: Start drip at 2.5 mcg/kg/min

Dopamine Bonus – Special Notes 1 of 2

Dopamine 1. Always monitor drip never run wide open. 2. An infusion pump is required for interfacility transports: – A minimum of microdrip tubing is required for field use.

Dopamine Special Notes – Bonus 2 of 2

Dopamine 3. It is important to remember that even in low dose ranges dopamine elevates pulmonary artery occlusive pressure and may exacerbate pulmonary congestion despite a rise in cardiac output.
