Summer Fusion 2015 STRENGTHS IN TEAMS

 Researching individual success led to researching team/organizational success  How do “successful” teams/organizations maximize their effectiveness?  Analyzed data to identify patterns of talent within teams  Grouped talent themes into four “domains of leadership” STRENGTHS IN TEAMS BACKGROUND

How can strengths help with team dynamics?  Enhance what one person already possesses  “Take over” where one leaves off (e.g. Developer/Maximizer)  “Make up” for a lesser talent “Greatness lies not in being strong but in the right use of your strengths” STRENGTHS IN TEAMS StrengthsQuest (2006, 2 nd Ed.); Clifton, Anderson, and Schreiner Achievement Self Confidence

 How will your strengths help you in your internship/job/grad program search?  How will your strengths help you in transitioning to a graduate program, internship, or full-time position?  How will recognizing the strengths of others also help you in this process? Leveraging the strengths of your classmates/co-workers can be very beneficial in creating cohesive and productive teams! TRANSITIONING FROM UNDERGRAD

TEAMS Team 1Team 2Team 3Team 4 Katy Michael Nicholas Lauren Alexandro Daniel Timothy William Rachel Alexander Mack Jacob

 The company you work for wants you to research and come up with a new product/line of service for it’s customers and present your findings to the board for approval.  Determine the best course of action based upon your team strengths. TEAM OBJECTIVE

 How did you go about creating a plan?  Why did you assign the tasks the way you did?  What potential challenges do you foresee? DISCUSSION

 You are a group of new interns/hires in your company. Leadership has asked you to create a voluntary “day of service” for everyone in the company. Due to employment laws, they cannot require people to participate, but they want as much engagement in the event as possible.  Figure out how best to plan and execute the event, leveraging your team strengths. TEAM OBJECTIVE

 Who was assigned to do what, and why?  What challenges do you anticipate, and how might you overcome them? DISCUSSION

 The most effective teams have strengths in all four leadership domains  You do not need to be in a formal leadership role to provide valuable leadership to the team  A strengths-based leader is intentional and purposeful TAKEAWAYS

“The best teams achieve success by developing a team dynamic that welcomes, values, and leverages each members’ talents.” Retrieved from A FINAL THOUGHT
