Endangered Species Efforts By-Fizza Rizvi Class-VI

Endangered Species There are many endangered species in the world such as:- White Tiger Polar Bear Leopard Baboon etc. However, I would like to talk about less famous ones. Some of them are -

Boa Constrictor They are species of large, heavy bodied snake. It is a member of the family Biodae found in North, Central and South America, and some islands in the Caribbean.

Kangaroo Rat They are, genus,Dipodomys, small rodents native to North America. The common name derives from their bipedal form: as they hop in a manner similar to the much larger kangaroo although they are not related.

African Owl They are a breed of fancy pigeon developed over many years of selective breeding. They originated in Tunisia, and were imported into England during the 19th century. The breed is known for its short beak, which gives the breed the owl name due to the size and shape.

Snow Leopard They are moderately large cat native to the mount ranges or Central Asia. They occupy alpine and subalpine areas generally 3,350 and 6,700 metres above sea level in Central Asia.

Asian Tortoise They are also known as Asian Brown Tortoise, it is a species of tortoise found in India only.

Baby Kangaroo They have powerful hind legs, large feet adapted for leaping, a long muscular tail for balance, and a small head. Like most marsupials, female kangaroos have a pouch called a marsupium in which joeys complete postnatal development.

White Rhino They consists of two subspecies the southern white rhino, with an estimated 17,460 wild-living animals at the end of 2007,and the much rarer northern white rhino. The northern subspecies has very few remaining, all in captivity.

Wild Black Yak They long-haired bovine found throughout the Himalaya region of south Central Asia, the Tibetan Plateau and as far north as Mongolia and Russia. In addition to a large domestic population, there is a small, vulnerable wild yak population. In the 1990s, a concerted effort was undertaken to protect them.

Forest Hippo They are semi aquatic, inhabiting rivers, lakes and mangrove swamps where territorial bulls preside over a stretch of river and groups of 5 to 30 females and young. During the day they remain cool by staying in the water or mud reproduction and childbirth both occur in water.
