The Himalayan Mountains

About The Himalayas. The Himalayas formed about 70 million years ago. They were caused by a collision between the Indian subcontinent and Asia. The Himalayas contain some very famous peaks that can reach 76,000 meters tall! There are also some very interesting animals that live in the Himalayas.

Animals of the Himalayas Some amazing animals that live in the Himalayas include red pandas, tigers, snow leopards, and yaks and tigers. Most of these animals, are endagered.

Animals of the Himalayas Snow Leopord Animals of the Himalayas Red panda

Adaptations Animals in the Himalayas adapt in many ways. Birds adapt by migrating south to avoid cold weather. Another adaptation is how some creatures grow thick fur coats. They are also adapting by hunting for food.

Endangered Species Many animals that live in the Himalayas are becoming endangered. Animals like the tiger and the leopard are endangered because people use their fur and bones for carpets and stuff. Another endangered species is the Musk deer. They have special Musk that comes from the abdomen and is highly valued and used for perfume.

Humans can have a big impact on a habitat Humans can have a big impact on a habitat. For example, people hiking can ruin animals habitats. Hunting can also be a problem because more animals will become extinct. Humans can interfere with a natural habitat and cause serious changes Human interferences

Food Chain Tigers and snow leopards are at the top. They eat mountain goats Mountain goats eat grass Grass eats the sun and water

Mountain Goat. If the mountain goat was taken out of the food chain, tigers and snow leopards wouldn’t have anything to eat and would probably go extinct. There also might be to much grass. Grass If grass was taken out of the food chain, mountain goats would eventually go extinct because they wouldn’t have enough to eat. If mountain goats went extinct, tigers and snow leopards would also go hungry and go extinct. What would things be like if one animal was taken out of the food chain? What would happen if….

Plant life There is about 5000 to 12,000 feet of plant life in the Himalayas. There are many types of pine and oak life in the Himalayas. Natural vegetation has affected the climate and elevation of the Himalayas.

Dangers for the habitat The Himalayas have lost about half its forest coverage from 1950 to 1980. Now, less than 30% is forests. There are also problems with poaching, which has made more and more animals to become endangered. There are also noticeable changes in the climate.

Why the Himalayas are important The Himalayan mountains are important to the enviorment because they give a home and food to many animals who live there. Mountains are also important because they provide a source of water.

Extreme conditions of the Himalayas An extreme danger of the Himalayas is the tempatures. It can get very very cold. Another danger of the Himalayas is the predators such as tigers, snow leopards, and more. A bad condition is the lack of oxegyn. This is bad because you need oxegyn to breath! Another danger is the extreme terrain. Besides for mountain goats, it is very hard for animals to climb around.
