Your class has been put in charge of decorating the cafeteria for the hundredth day of school celebration. You would like to use fancy cut-out numerals to make all the numbers from one to 100 to place around the tops of the cafeteria walls. After doing some research you find that the local discount sore has gold numerals for 5¢ each. The local stationary store has the exact same numerals, but a difference pricing scheme. They charge 10¢ per numeral for the first 10. The next 100 numerals are 5¢ apiece. Any numerals beyond are 3¢ each. Solving Problems  Mom just filled the cookie jar with cookies. They were chocolate-chunk cookies – my favorite. My brother came home from soccer practice and took half the cookies. My sister came home from dance lessons and took half of what was left. When my dad got home from work, he took half the remaining cookies. By the time I finished my homework and went downstairs for a snack, there were only two cookies left. How many cookies did mom put in the cookie jar? pp. 133
