5-4 Writing Equations in Slope-Intercept Form Objective: Students will be able to model real world data with an equation in slope-intercept form.

Directions: Write a linear equation in slope-intercept form to model each situation. A video store charges $10 for a rental card plus $2 per rental A pine tree is 2 feet tall and grows at a rate of 1.5 feet per year A fox terrier weights 30 pounds and is on a special diet to lose 2 pounds per month 4) An airplane at an altitude of 3000 feet descends at a rate of 500 feet per mile

5) The cost for 7 dance lessons is $82 5) The cost for 7 dance lessons is $82. The cost for 11 dance lessons is $122. Write a linear equation to find the total cost for the lessons. Then use the equation to find the cost of 4 lessons.

Directions: For #6-7, write an equation in slope-intercept form to model the situation. 6) A construction company charges $15 per hour for debris removal, plus a one-time fee for the use of a trash dumpster. The total fee for 9 hours of service is $195.

7) There is a set daily fee for renting a moving truck, plus a charge of $.50 per mile driven. It costs $64 to rent the truck on a day when it is driven 48 miles.
