TYPES OF MATRIC BACHELOR PASS DIPLOMA PASS SENIOR CERTIFICATE The minimum admission requirement to a Bachelor's Degree is a NSC as certified by Umalusi, with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the chosen higher education institution, as well as an achievement rating of 4 (Adequate achievement, 50-59%) or better in four subjects chosen from the following list of recognised 20-credit NSC subjects

4 “designated” subjects at 50% All Northwood subjects are “designated” except Life Orientation Individual University departments may have own requirements Maths Literacy does not prevent University Entrance Degree requirements – Bachelor’s pass

Rating Code Rating Marks % 7Outstanding Meritorious Substantial Adequate Moderate Elementary Not Achieved 0-29 Points scale & Percentages

Selection processes for new entrants to UKZN in A minimum of 15% of new entrants to each programme will be selected from students who have completed their schooling at Quintile 1 or 2 schools and meet all the minimum entry requirements for the programme. Specific programmes may provide for increased quotas. Within quotas, selection will be done on academic merit. Note that no bonus points are awarded for additional subjects.

Selection processes for new entrants to UKZN in The APS is calculated by adding the performance levels (1- 8) for the six subjects taken for the NSC excluding Life Orientation (LO). If more than seven subjects are taken the APS is calculated by adding the performance level for: English (HL or FAL), plus Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, plus the best ratings of the other subjects (excluding Life Orientation and Maths paper 3) so that a total of six subjects are included.

Calculation of Admission Points Score (APS) for the NSC The percentages achieved in NSC examinations (preliminary and finals) will be allocated a score equal to that percentage. The sum of six subject scores, excluding Life Orientation, but including English and any other required subject(s) for the relevant programme, is considered when deciding on admission. (In other words, for a given programme where Mathematics and Physical Sciences are required, we will take the scores for English, Mathematics, Physical Sciences and the next best three subjects other than Life Orientation to compute the NSC score towards the APS.) Results below 40% for any subject do not attract a score. In the Faculties of Engineering & the Built Environment, and Health Sciences, the NBT score forms part of the APS. In the Faculties of Engineering & the Built Environment, and Science, the Mathematics Paper 3 contributes to the APS. Selection processes for UCT in 2014

No final exam (?), only course work Differences in University admission requirements DO NOT take lightly and rely on passing all the others Need for portfolio - incomplete = incomplete result Need to participate in the physical component Life Orientation
