The Miracle A Project by Gerrit Hale & Dennis Mcghee
The Device Bottle with dry ice and hot water Battery rests on plat- form and falls on wood support Hammer falls and smashes balloon Shoe Falls Buzzer goes off in alarming victory Balloon pops
Stored Energy There is potential gravitational energy at the three points with the arrows
Summary of Construction Issues Our initial plan was to have a ball launch to knock over the wall with the nail but we couldn’t get the ball to launch correctly. The nail would not pop the balloon. We couldn’t get the balloon to inflate and start the battery to roll.
Conclusions This project is a great example an “alarming” number of steps just to press a button. It also showed the many ways energy can be stored and then released to perform a task. In the end we laughed, we cried, and learned the difference between cork board and plywood.
