Lexile Levels Students grades 3-5 will receive a Lexile reading level on the parent SOL report. A Lexile reading level indicates a range that your child may be successful in reading. Keep in mind that this range level is based on only one assessment (the English SOL) given at one moment during the year.

Other Things to Know About Mt. Olivet We won the Governor’s Board of Education Virginia Index of Performance Excellence Award. (5 years running) – Indicates meeting and exceeding the minimum requirements for accreditation standards and the minimum requirements for the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 for at least two consecutive years. – Indicates pursuit of academic excellence resulting in a significant percentage of students demonstrating advanced proficiency across the curriculum. We have excellent teachers who collaborate on a regular basis in order to meet the individual needs of students. We have two instructional coaches who provide instant feedback to teachers while teaching – a great deal of job-embedded, on-going learning. We have smart students!

Seeking Parents We need parents who will participate as part of our school improvement committee (TBA)

iPad Information 3 rd, 4 th, and 5 th grade students Textbooks will be loaded onto the iPads – math and social studies (Those students who do not take the iPads home will still be able to do homework assignments with what the teacher gives them.) Insurance – Checks to HC Schools for $24.00 or cash; covers damage, not loss Students are not allowed to download apps

iPad Information Chargers – if lost or damaged, can be replaced at Wal-mart. Keep charged at home. Won’t get the full charge at school. Periodic checks Replacement cost iPad 2 Responsibility form – Must sign new responsibility form. Must attend a meeting for student to take iPad home.

iPad Information Security – Student responsible for iPad Internet safety – We have filters at school, but parents must monitor at home. Goal - Issue iPads first day of school Teachers have the authority to take iPads away from students if they deem necessary.
