 Prerequisites › Grade P in Math 005 › Or by the placement test  Every student must have an active University Crimson account for computer/course login.

 Textbook – Beginning & Intermediate Algebra, 5 th edition by Lial, Hornsby, McGinnis, published by Addison Wesley.  This course is a computer based course. All assignments for this course can be accessed through Blackboard Learn in your MyBama.  An access code will be necessary to complete your assignments. No work can be completed until you have entered an access code into your account.

 Unless you are repeating this course from a previous semester using the current edition of the textbook, every student must have a new access code to access to the publisher’s online software where assignments can be completed.  The access code will allow you to gain access to all learning tools, graded assignments and tests.

 Access codes may be purchased with or without a printed version of the textbook.  There is a grace period to work without purchasing an access code for a minimum of 21 days. Once the temporary access code expires, you will be asked to enter a purchased access code to be allowed to continue working on your assignments.  NOTE: Once you use the temporary access code you cannot put in your actual purchased code until the grace period has ended.  Again, no work can be completed until you have entered your access code into your account.

 Possible grades in this course are A, B, C (+/-) or NC.  A grade of NC means you receive no credit for this course. You must take the course again, but an NC does not affect your GPA.  The last day to withdraw from the course: › Wednesday, March 25. › No withdrawals will be given after this date.

 You are required to attend your scheduled class each week for Class Attendance.  Every student is required to be present the entire scheduled class time of 50 minutes.  Students will earn 1 point a day toward the class attendance grade for meeting this requirement.  TO BE COUNTED PRESENT, YOU MUST SIGN THE CLASS ROLL.

 Students will be required to work in the MTLC for a minimum of 2.5 hours. Time in class will count toward lab attendance.  To get credit for lab hours, you must swipe your ACT card when entering and exiting the MTLC. Anyone caught swiping another student’s ID will be charged with academic misconduct.  Lab hours are counted from Monday to Friday each week. Hours from one week do not roll over to another week.  Students will earn 3 points a week toward the lab attendance grade. Partial points will be awarded for fewer than 2.5 hours. If you spend 3 hours or more in the lab in one stretch you need to swipe out and swipe back in.

 There will be a graded homework assignment for each section. Multiple attempts are allowed on homework. You may save homework before the assignment is finished and return to it later.  There will be a quiz given after each section. Click on the “ Submit ” button when you are ready to record your quiz score. An infinite number of attempts are allowed on quizzes. The best score will be used in your grade computation.  At the end of the semester a minimum of your three lowest homework grades and your three lowest quiz grades will be automatically dropped.  Any missed homework and/or quizzes will be part of the three dropped grades at the end of the semester. No makeup work will be allowed.

 The MML Study Plan is worth 5% of your overall grade.  You can get access to the MML Study Plan by clicking on the “Study Plan” tab on the left side of the software.  The MML Study Plan will need to be completed by the end of final exam week.

 During the course of the semester your study plan will be updated after every quiz. If you miss an important topic on a quiz, your study plan will show that you need to do extra work on those type of problems in order to improve in the course. So, please take every quiz seriously and do your very best!  Inside the study plan you will be able to work on the types of problems that you are having difficulty with. When you feel like you understand and have mastered these difficult areas you may take a short 3 problem quiz. If you are successful on the quiz, your study plan will then be updated showing this mastery.  The MML Study Plan will be individual and unique to just you!

 NO Food, Drinks, or Tobacco products  NO Talking on Cell Phones (turn them off and put them away)  NO Friends/Companions in the MTLC (you are here to work, not chat)  NO Surfing the web, or doing work from another class (the MTLC is for Math only!)

 The Syllabus quiz contains questions about the syllabus.  You may take this quiz as many times as you like, and you may have your syllabus with you when you take it.  The purpose of the quiz is to make sure that you understand the policies set out in the syllabus should it become necessary to refer to them later, so take this quiz very seriously.

 There will be 4 tests and a comprehensive final given during the semester. All tests combined count for 70% of your grade.  Tests days are shown on the front page of your syllabus.  During test weeks, the MTLC will be available for studying, reviewing, and or working assignments during normal hours on Monday, 9-10PM on Tuesday-Thursday, and normal hours on Friday.  You will need to register for a test time for Tests 1 through Test 4 during a test registration period as noted on the front page of your syllabus. We will begin this process on Monday 1/19.

 For tests, you will be allowed to use the CASI FX-260- Student (available at the University bookstores) or the calculator that is available on the computer.  Using another calculator is considered academic misconduct.  You need to know how to use the calculator before testing. Help will not be given during a test.

Look!

 Students will be allowed to replace the lowest regular test grade with the grade made on the final exam. However, zeros due to academic misconduct will not be replaced. Final Exams will still count the normal 30% as well.

 Homework and quizzes may be completed at home. However, if grades are not successfully sent from home for any reason, you will not be able to retry the work after the deadline has passed.  The math software does not work well with SAFARI browser found on Apple products. Use Firefox browser and you should have success.  If you ever encounter “Time Out Errors” on your personal computers, try deleting the Cookies and/or try a different computer.  Tests must be completed in the MTLC.

 If you have any trouble with the software or finding your assignments, then you need to come by the MTLC during operating hours and let someone assist you.  Remember you cannot complete any assignments until you have entered your access code.

 Center for Academic Success (Osband Hall) has many resources at your disposal:  Free individual tutoring sessions in Osband Hall by appointment and on a walk-in basis.  Go to to see times for help sessions and test reviews or to schedule a tutoring appointment.

 Office of Disability Services ›  Bring paperwork from ODS to your instructor AND directly to the MTLC staff.  You must do this at least one week prior to the scheduled test to receive accommodations.  Must be done each semester.
