Running Backs Finding the right back field! Buddy Morris

In youth football finding the right backfield is difficult. Though speed is a great cover up it is not the only thing to look for! Look for these qualities as well  -Footwork and Body Language  -Physical Toughness  -Blocking and Hands  -Mental Toughness  -Oh yes…. Then SPEED

BAD BEHAVIORSCORRECTIONS  False Steps/Crossing feet  Running tall  Too much Juking (common trait of speed and not knowing how to use it)  PA/Option Follow Through  Poor Blocking  Power Steps/Open Stepping  Running Low  Run to the assignments  Repetitions

FOOTWORK DRILLS BODY LANGUAGE DRILLS  Downhill Reaction w/Catch and Bag  Sweep Reaction w/Catch and Bag  Directional Steps  Counter Steps  Sprint and Cuts  2 Point Stance  3 Point Stance  Tacking a Hand-off  Fake Hand-Off  Chutes with Football

Speed at times hides physical toughness!!! Ask yourself these questions???  Can the body take the play grind?  Does the player have the power with the speed?  Endurance?

BAD BEHAVIORSCORRECTIONS  Not following through with fakes  Lazy Blocks  Lazy Pass Routes  Lazy Ball Carrying  Reps  Oh yes reps!!!

BLOCKINGHANDS  O-Line Drills  Lead Blocks  Faking a Handoff  Pass Protection Drill/Outside Pass Block  Mirror Block  Short Pass Routes  Receiving Toss or Pitch  Zig Zag Cone Switch Drill  Blind Ball Drill

SPEED!!!
