Background Juan Ibáñes has had discussions with several members of ESB on this project and after the SC meeting held in Barcelona has come up with a table of contents for chapters and possible authors for this work, which would make a link between soil scientists and ecologists and bio-geographers.

Objectives Agree on the idea of ESB sponsoring a book on the subject or not. Suggest improvements on contents. Identify authors agree and alternative authors of individual chapters Establish a timeframe and a work program Evaluate level of support and if a special ESB Working group is needed.
