Course schedule/content: Two parts of the course: self-directed study recommended materials to enhance participants’ English language and presentation improvement. in-class study practice in delivering presentations.

Crafting an abstract What is an abstract? How to craft an abstract to get you a slot for your presentation?

What is an abstract? An abstract is a summary of your proposed presentation which will command attention and interest from the proposal screening committee.

An abstract An abstract must.. discuss current issues and proposed solutions to the issue. An abstract must.. indicate what the presenter will do in the session. An abstract must.. tell the audience what they will gain from the presentation

An abstract is also the roadmap of your presentation It tell your audience how you will conduct your session.

Examples 1 The Global green New deal Policy and Implementation ABSTRACT: Multiple crises faced by the world have prompted international economists to identify alternatives to concurrent problems. The presenter proposes three categories of policies to revive economy, create, promote sustainable growth, reduce carbon dependency and environment destruction, stimulate spending, changes in domestic and international policies. Benefits and implementation of each policy will be elaborated and examples of possible projects implementation will be discussed.

Examples 2 Green Jobs; Towards sustainable decent work in a sustainable, low-carbon world Abstract ; The use of technology in industrialized world has markedly reduced job opportunities for low skilled workers. The speaker presents evidences of ‘green job’’ currently available and how the green economy can be created and jobs can be transformed. The definition of a ‘green job’ and its availability will be explained. Policies to regulate, green job with stimulus and measures with examples of flourishing green job sectors will be recommended.

Final project 11 August 2012 Write an abstract of your presentation. Prepare a presentation about a project that you have worked on and present it on 11 August, 2012.
