Unit 3, Quiz 1 Patterns to equations

Things to know… Going from patterns to equations (think of the letter patterns).  You should be able to break down a visual pattern 2 different ways to form the same equation.  The equations need to then be simplified to prove that they are the same.  You should be able to justify the equation in terms of how you broke up the pattern.  Putting a pattern into a table, coming up with the equation, graphing the equation.  You should be able to justify each part of the equation ON the graph.   Graphing patterns/equations.  If you graph two patterns.... When are lines parallel?  When are they not?  Where do they intersect?  How do you know they are lines?  Why are they lines?  When they are not straight lines, why not?

Warm-Up Identify the equation for the pattern: 4, 1, -2, -5…. Write the pattern in a table Graph the pattern Identify the slope and y-intercept in terms of the pattern, table, and graph.

--Write out two table and equations for the patterns --Write out two table and equations for the patterns. --Explain your pattern, how did you break it up? --Simplify the patterns.

Identify an equation for the pattern Explain how the numbers in your equation connect to the gardens

Compare the two equations Explain any differences in the equations Compare the two equations Explain any differences in the equations. Explain any similarities in the equations.

For the prior patterns Graph each relationship Identify each part in the equation on the line. What do the graphs of each pattern have in common? How do they differ? Which line is steeper?

Patterns Write the following patterns in a table, write an equation, graph the lines -5, -3, -1, 1…. 6, 4, 2, 0….. Identify the slope and y-intercept of both lines on the graph and in the pattern Compare the lines

Patterns Write the following patterns in a table, write an equation, graph the lines 3, 10, 17, 24…. -2, 2, 6, 10….. Identify the slope and y-intercept of both lines on the graph and in the pattern Compare the lines

Patterns 3 Write the following patterns in a table and write an equation 4, 7, 10, 13…. 7, 13, 19, 25….. Without graphing, identify the slope and y-intercept of both lines on the graph and in the pattern Without graphing, compare the lines. How will they be similar? How will they be different?
