Designated Supports  These supports are features that are available for use by any student for whom the need has been indicated by an educator or team of educators with parent/guardian and student input as appropriate, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities. These supports may not be provided for ALL students because they are not universal tools. 16

MaskingYes Content that is not of immediate need or that may be distracting to the student is blocked off Yes Template for Screen Using a template that is held against the computer screen to reduce a student’s visual field (school provides). Yes All students may use TTS for the HSA Mathematics Assessment; only students who will never be able to read and receive all printed materials in an audio format may use TTS for the HSA Reading Assessment as an accommodation. Translated Test DirectionsYes Translation of test directions is a language support available prior to beginning the actual test items. Students who have limited English language skills can use this support if they are proficient in the other language and not proficient in English. Yes Translated directions are available for the grade 4 HSA Science Assessment in Hawaiian.

Embedded Designated Supports New Smarter Balanced Assessments Previous Hawaii State Assessments Translations (Glossaries) for Math items Yes Allowed for selected construct- irrelevant terms in Math items that are unrelated to what is being assessed. Students who have limited English language skills can use this support whether or not they are designated as ELLs or ELLs with disabilities. 11 languages are supported. No Translations (Stacked) for Math items Yes A full translation in Spanish is provided above each original item. This support may be appropriate for students whose primary language is not English and who use dual language supports in the classroom. No 19

Yes Closed Circuit TV to enlarge the online test items when the largest online font size is not enough. This is an accommodation for HSA. Read AloudYes Allowed for Math items and for ELA items, but not for reading passages; text is read aloud to the student by a trained and qualified human reader. Yes Allowed only for the grade 4 HSA Science Assessment in Hawaiian because text-to-speech is not available in Hawaiian. ScribeYes Allowed for Math and ELA non- writing items; students dictate their responses to a human who records verbatim what they dictate; students must have documented significant motor or processing difficulties, or who have had a recent injury, e.g. broken hand or arm. Yes Scribe may record the responses for a student who has an orthopedic- related impairment; this is an accommodation for the HSA. 22

Yes Seated near the Test Administrator, Tested Individually, or Tested in a Small Group; these settings are accommodations for the HSA. Translated Test DirectionsYes Translation of test directions is a language support available prior to beginning the actual test items. Students who have limited English language skills can use this support if they are proficient in the other language and not proficient in English. Yes Translated Directions are available for the grade HSA Science Assessment in Hawaiian. Translations (Glossaries) for Math items Yes Allowed for selected construct-irrelevant terms in Math items that are unrelated to what is being assessed. Students who have limited English language skills can use this support whether or not they are designated as ELLs or ELLs with disabilities. 11 languages are supported. No 23

Accommodations  These accommodations are changes in procedures for materials that increase the equitable access for students who need them and allow these students the opportunity to show what they know and can do. Only students who have documented needs in their IDEA-eligible Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or their 504 Plans may use one or more of these accommodations. 24

Embedded Accommodations New Smarter Balanced Assessments Previous Hawaii State Assessments American Sign Language (ASL)Yes Allowed for Math items in their entirety; allowed for ELA Listening items; an ASL video with an ASL human signer will be provided. Yes On-Site Interpreter Interpreter signs the verbal directions in ASL or the Signed English version; interpreter may also sign one Math item at a time and the answer options if a student asks for assistance. BrailleYes Individuals read raised dot code with their fingertips; graphic materials is also presented in a raised format; contracted and non-contracted braille is available. Yes The same braille features are provided for the HSA Science Assessment. 25

Embedded Accommodations New Smarter Balanced Assessments Previous Hawaii State Assessments Closed CaptioningYes Allowed for ELA Listening items; printed text appears on the computer screen as audio materials are presented. Students who are deaf or hard of hearing and who typically access audio information presented by reading words that appear in synchrony with the audio presentation may need this support. No StreamlineYes Provides an alternate, more linear display of an item and stimulus. No 26

Embedded Accommodations New Smarter Balanced Assessments Previous Hawaii State Assessments Text-to-SpeechYes Allowed for Reading passages in grades 6-8 and 11; text is read aloud to a student via embedded technology. Not allowed for grades 3-5 based on the ELA/Literacy Common Core State Standards being assessed. This accommodation is appropriate for a very small number of students (estimated to be approximately 1-2% of students with disabilities participating in a general assessment). Yes Only students with disabilities who will never be able to read and who receive all printed materials in an audio format may use TTS for the HSA Reading Assessment (estimated to be less than 1/2 of 1%). 27

Students with some physical disabilities, including both fine motor and gross motor skills, may need to use this accommodation. No 28

Non-Embedded Accommodations New Smarter Balanced Assessments Previous Hawaii State Assessments CalculatorYes Allowed for Math; non-embedded calculator for students needing a special calculator such as a braille calculator or a talking calculator Yes Hand-held and online four function calculator was provided for all students in grades 3-8 and 10 when they answered all Mathematics items. This was a universal tool for the HSA. Multiplication TableYes Allowed for Math items for grade 4 and above; a paper-based single digit (1-9) multiplication table will be available from Smarter Balanced for reference. No 29

Non-Embedded Accommodations New Smarter Balanced Assessments Previous Hawaii State Assessments Noise BuffersYes Ear mufflers, white noise, and/or other equipment used to block external sounds; A student (not groups of students) wears equipment to reduce environmental noises. No Print on DemandYes Some students with disabilities may need paper copies of either passages/stimuli/and/or items. A very small percentage of students should need this accommodation. Yes Print on Request Allowed for a student whose specific visual impairment requires the use of paper format in an individual setting. 30
