  Guru Har Rai Sahib was the son of Baba Gurdita Ji the eldest son of Guru Hargobind ji.  He was born on January 16 th, 1630, to Mata Nihal Kaur Ji (also known as Mata Ananti)  Guru Har Rai Ji was the grandson of Guru Har Gobind Ji. Birthplace & Family

  There was a time when Guru Har Rai Ji came back from horse back riding and in his rush to greet his Grandfather, Guru Har Gobind Ji, he accidentally caught his clothes on the thorns of a rose bush.  The bush got jostled and some of the rose petals fell to the ground.  Young Har Rai Ji was distraught and he began to cry.  His Grandfather consoled him and reminded him to be careful in all his movements, so as to avoid harming anything in his environment.   Family – Guru Har Rai Ji was married to Mata Kishan Kaur Ji (Sulakhni Ji) & had two sons: Sri Ram Rai Ji and Sri Har Krishan Sahib Ji (who later became the 8 th Guru).  Guruship – Guru Har Gobind Ji enthroned Sri Har Rai as his successor at the tender age of 14, on March 3rd, Guru Har Rai Ji’s Life

  Strengthened the military – Guru Har Rai Ji boosted the military spirit of the Sikhs, but never engaged in any direct conflict with the Mughal Empire  Herbal Medicines Hospital – Guru Har Rai Ji established an Ayurvedic herbal hospital and research center at Kiratpur Sahib. Patients were given free treatment.  The hospital even saved the life of Prince Dara Shikoh, son of the Emperor Shahjehan Guru Har Rai Ji’s Contributions

  Guru Har Rai Ji was an Environmentalist – Guru Har Rai Ji loved nature and maintained an exquisite garden and zoo. Environmentalist

  The emperor Aurangzeb framed some false charges against Guru Har Rai Ji and called him to appear in his court. Guru Har Rai Ji sent his elder son, Baba Ram Rai to clear the charges.  Ram Rai appeared on behalf of Guru Har Rai Ji in the royal court and tried to clarify the misunderstandings regarding Guru Ghar and Sikh faith. However, to please the emperor, he changed one word of Guru Nanak Dev ji’s hymns. When Guru Har Rai Ji was informed about this incident, he immediately excommunicated Ram Rai Ji – his eldest son - from the Sikh Panth and never met him again.  Guru Har Rai Sahib installed his younger son, Har Krishan, as the Eighth Nanak and he then passed away on October 6th, 1661 at Kiratpur Sahib.
