What are Managed Lanes TxDOT defines a managed lane facility as one that increases freeway efficiency by packaging various operational and design actions. Generally a “freeway within a freeway” where a set of lanes within the freeway cross section is physically separated from general- purpose lanes

What are they? Physically Separated Toll lanes with Controlled Points of Access Utilize Fixed, Variable or Traffic Responsive Tolls to Manage Demand Also Known as Value- Priced Lanes Objectives Relieve Congestion Optimize Use of Capacity Improve Operating Speeds Provide Incentive for Modal Shift Offer a Reliable Alternative

HOT lanes are limited-access, normally barrier separated highway lanes that provide free or reduced cost access to qualifying HOVs, and sell additional capacity to other vehicles which do not meet passenger occupancy requirements.
