Level 2: Lesson 1 What do you think… ‘It’s your Game’ means? . ‘Keep it real’ means? MRS. J. ALLER

"It’s Your Game”… means “Keep It Real" … means when we’re talking about Your Game, we’re really talking about Your Life. the overall objective is to win, or to be successful by achieving your goals. one important thing to do in your game is to “keep it real.” “Keep It Real" … means  Telling it like it is (being honest with yourself and others)  Being yourself (not being fake)  Being healthy and happy  Being responsible  Being respectful to yourself and others  Doing the right thing REAL MEANS "BEING TRUE TO YOURSELF" MRS. J. ALLER

is IT easy or hard to “keep it real.” Why/why not? sometimes it’s hard to "keep it real," especially when teens are under pressure from friends, someone they like/love or others to do things they don’t want to do. these lessons will teach YOU how to keep YOUR game REAL, or live life in a way that helps you succeed. MRS. J. ALLER

"It’s Your Game…Keep It Real Bingo." it is important for them to listen, understand, and follow the rules of the game. fill out each box on your GAME sheet. You should not talk to anyone while you are filling in your answers. the game don’t start until I say “GO” Find another person who has the same answers in one of the boxes as you.  Have that person sign your box. For example, if your personal rule is “I won’t do drugs” you need to find someone else with that rule and have the student sign that box.  You need to find other people with the same answers as you in other boxes and have them sign those boxes.  When you have four signed boxes in a row (either across, down, diagonal), shout “It’s My Game” and take your sheet to the teacher to be checked.  We want to see how many people in the class can get four signed boxes in a row within five minutes. (use a clear no or an alternative action)  What are some consequences to having sex? (pregnancy, HIV, STIs)  What are some reasons a person might choose not to have sex? (want to go to college, want to wait until their older or married,) MRS. J. ALLER

"Lesson Sequence Level II Curriculum." many of the things we just talked about, such as playing by your rules and consequences of having sex, are topics that you will learn more about in the program this year.  Consequences of pregnancy  Consequences of getting an STI, including HIV  Playing by your rules, especially in sexual situations  Dating relationships  Using condoms and other contraceptive methods ---You will participate in different activities, such as acting out a part in a movie script, writing in a journal, or giving advice on how a character from a story can handle the situation they are in. ---some days you will work on computers- you will play games, watch short cartoon-like movies, as well as watch a group of teenagers handle some tough situations. ---by the end of the lessons YOU will have the skills to “keep YOUR game real,” or to make decisions that will help YOU achieve their goals. Agreements for Classroom Discussion Over the next few weeks, we will be talking about serious, sensitive matters as the teacher I will treat everyone with respect and as mature young people. In turn, I expect students to respect each other and each other’s opinions. Everyone has a right to speak. (look at the poster for agreements for classroom discussion, are there anything you would like to add/exclude in our own list? . LIMITS to Confidentiality…. Everything in class will be kept confidential except for 3 things 1. If you tell me you are going to hurt yourself 2. If you tell me you are going to hurt someone else 3. If you tell me about past or present abuse or neglect. Abuse includes physical or sexual abuse. By law, a teacher cannot keep these things a secret-report to child protection services MRS. J. ALLER

Journal Activity This journal is a way to think about and respond to the It’s Your Game activities. Your journals are private and no one, not even the teacher, will look at them. . You should feel free to write or draw in these journals. You are responsible for your journals bring them to class on designated journal days. (everyday). Do not write your names or any other identifying information on the journal. MRS. J. ALLER

Journal Activity (page 2-3) “Goals in My Game” the important parts of playing any game are to know the goals, the plan, and the players in the game. write down two short-term goals and one long-term goal for your own game, or life. “My Game Plan” write down the steps, or the plan, you need to follow in order to achieve the goals you just listed. “Players in My Game” write down who the most important players in your game. You are the most important player in your game, but there are also other people who are important in helping them achieve your goals and who you can turn to when your game is being challenged (e.g., parents, friends, teachers, relatives, pastor).
