Pagination can be controlled. Sections affect document pagination. Page length is determined by the size of the paper and the top and bottom margin settings. Page length for standard-size paper is 9 inches.

Soft page breaks adjust as text is inserted or deleted. Soft page breaks cannot be deleted. Soft page breaks appear as a horizontal dotted line in Draft view. Draft view does not show page layout nor does it display special elements such as headers and footers. Soft page breaks appear as actual page breaks in Print Layout view.

All rights reserved. 6 Hard Page Break Insert a hard page break when you want a page break at a specific location in a document. –Hard page breaks appear as a dotted line with the words “Page Break” in Draft view. –Hard page breaks appear as an actual page break in Print Layout view. To insert a hard page break –Click the Insert tab and click the Page Break command. –Press [Ctrl]+[Enter]. –Click the Page Layout tab and click the Breaks button. Delete a hard page break by pressing the [Delete] key or pressing the [Backspace] key.

Insert section breaks by changing the margins for selected text or by clicking the Page Layout tab and clicking the Breaks command. There are three types of section breaks. –Next page—section starts on a new page. –Continuous—section follows the text before it without a page break. –Even page or Odd page—section starts on the next even- or odd-numbered page. Use Draft view to display section breaks.

Specify a specific section, page number, comment, or bookmark. Faster than scrolling in long documents. Initiate the Go To command. –Click the Home tab and open the Find and Replace dialog box. –Double-click the Status bar. –Press [Ctrl]+[G] or press [F5].

All rights reserved. 18 Lesson 10 Summary Pagination is the Word process of flowing text from line to line and from page to page. Word creates a soft page break at the end of each page. When you edit text, you adjust line and page breaks. You can adjust the way a page breaks by manually inserting a hard page break Delete a hard page break by clicking it and pressing Delete or Backspace The Paragraph dialog box contains line and page break options to control pagination. Use the Keep lines together option, Keep with next option, or Page break before option

Apply a Next page section break to start a section on a new page or a Continuous section break to continue the new section on the same page. Apply an Even page or Odd page section break to start a section on the next even or odd numbered page Change the vertical alignment of a section by clicking within the section and opening the Page Setup dialog box. Check pagination in the Print Preview or Print Layout view. Scroll through the document or change the zoom level to display a different view Use the Go To command to go to a specific page or section. You can also go to a relative destination such as the midpoint or the 50 th line
