Vision Plan The Rotary Club of Los Altos By the District 5170 Vision Facilitation Team August 2011

Why We Plan  Pull in the Same Direction  Continuity Among Leadership  Understanding by Membership

Planning Steps  Vision  Long Range Plan  Tactical Club Plan  Actions and Timelines  Continuity, Consistency, and Consensus

Planning  Who are we?  Where are we?  Where do we want to be?  How will we get there?  How will we know when we arrive?

Vision Exercise We wrote a letter as if it were 2016 to the Rotary International President explaining why the Rotary Club of Los Altos deserves the distinguished Gold Medal as recognition for being “the best of the best.” This became the basis for creating the Vision that our club might have for itself five years from now!

The Visioning Plan

The Rotary Club of Los Altos  Is the Gold Standard for integrity and community service  Provides leadership to community organizations  Attracts and creates Movers and Shakers  Is Proactive in reaching out for projects  Advances the hope, health and dreams of the local and global community

Attributes/Membership  Generationally, ethnically and vocationally representative of the Los Altos community  Every member engaged in club activities  Fun, effective supportive of each other’s businesses  New members actively integrated into Los Altos Rotary

Membership of Club 200 Alternative meeting or E-club

Fellowship  A broad range of fellowship activities are offered  Engage family in fellowship and community service events

Club Service  Active and Passive training on how to navigate Club’s many service opportunities  Great programs to encourage meeting attendance  Succession planning in all committees

Vocational Service  Members know name and classification of members  Every member posts the Four-Way Test at their business  Mentor adolescents and Veterans in vocational opportunities  Outreach to corporations/businesses for sponsorship/membership

Community Service - Projects  Named common project (pool, park, community building, etc.) to be used by the community  80% of members participate in an “Hands-On” project  Veterans’ program, in collaboration with other organizations, recognized as nationwide model  Major community presence with youth

Community Service – Fund Raising  $100 LAREF donation per member per year to promote: Guy Shoup Award  Art Show income of $750,000 over 5 years

 Collaborate/expand programs for continuum of service in support of Youth – PNG, Interact, RYLA, Enterprise Leadership Camp, etc.  Multi-year funding for scholarship winners New Generations

International Service  Child AIDS Prevention Program implemented throughout Africa and is ready to expand to Asia  Leader in SOLAR Projects around the world  Strong relationships with Rotary Clubs around the world

The Rotary Foundation  100% Participation in TRF - Every Rotarian Every Year  80% of Membership is double sustainer  Explain to New Members- Handbook on TRF vs LAREF

Public Awareness  Rotary symbol on major community project  Use social media to promote Club activities – internally & externally  Weekly articles and ads submitted and posted in print and electronic media  Club has presence at every event in the area

Vision Statement The Rotary Club of Los Altos Changes the World through Service “I joined for the Business and Fellowship. I stayed to Change the World.”

….and then what happened? Action WhoWhen 1. Compiled the facilitation sheets 2. Created a vision statement from info gathered this evening 3. Set a club forum or assembly to present and discuss "findings" with the rest of our club 4. Create a Presidents Council: 3 Immediate Past Pres., Current Pres., Pres. Elect, Pres. Elect Nominee.

Next Steps  Establish small groups or committees for each Avenue. Volunteers are Welcome!  Create five year Strategic Plan  Develop first year goals and objectives  Update membership periodically  Quarterly meetings of Presidents Council to create consistency and continuity.
