CARDICIS2 The Caribbean ICT Virtual Stakeholders Community (in five minutes)

Outline ● Creation of CIVIC ● Achievements ● Challenges ● Joining CIVIC

Creation of CIVIC ● Formed out of the ICT Roundtable held in Barbados in October 2002 ● Support from the Institute of the Connectivity in the Americas ● Consolidated in January 2003 as the virtual community hosted on dgroups

Achievements ● The virtual community has grown to about 200 members, (about 10% very active) ● Participation from all sectors – Govt, NGO, Academic, Institutional ● Active knowledge sharing and discussion (An average of 8 messages per day, some days more depending on topic)

Achievements ● Cross regional collaboration on specific tasks – Submission to WSIS 2003 – CIVIC members prepared Disaster Management Advocacy Brief – CIVIC members collaborated on CARISNET project – Submission of response to WGIG report

Challenges ● Multi-cultural participation – translation facility – CARDICIS (2) and you ● Decision making mechanisms yet to be developed ● Sustainability of CIVIC
