Pre-K and Kindergarten Winter Ideas for Common Core Math

Utilize pictures for multiple standards: K.CC.C.7 K.OA.A.2 What story could go with 4 and 5 makes 9? How about 9 take away 2 makes 7? The answer is 4 what is the question? Write a problem with an answer of 2. Compare the number of snowballs each penguin has. What could happen to make both friends have the same number of snowballs? There are some more snowballs in the igloo. If the total number of snowballs is 15, how many snowballs are in the igloo? The penguins threw some snowballs. Now there are 6 snowballs left. How many snowballs were thrown? Write a word problem for the picture.

K.MD.A.1 and K.MD.A.2 Teacher makes a gingerbread man in between the height of the students. Students compare their height to the gingerbread man.

K.MD.A.1 and K.MD.A.2 Students put strips in order from shortest to longest to make a tree.

Use several different sizes of snowmen. K.CC.B.4 Estimate and count the number of cotton balls it takes to cover their snowman. K.CC.C.6 Use several different sizes of snowmen.

K.CC.A.1 and K.CC.A.2 Practice counting with mittens on a number line. Turn several mittens around and have students tell the missing number.

K.CC.B.4 and K.CC.C.6 Students are given number cards and more/less cards to complete the activity. Easily differentiated.

K.MD.B.3 Classifying and counting objects

Independent center idea for counting. K.CC.A.3 and K.CC.B.4 Independent center idea for counting.

K.OA.A.3 and K.OA.A.4 Love the large size of this ten frame.
