Editing and Revising Chronicle of a Death Foretold Essay Due to turnitin.com by Friday Midnight

You will be graded on… Persuasive Element: emotional language, preponderance of evidence, etc. Surrealistic element 4-5 vocabulary words Symbol Thesis statement with subordinate adverbial clause Correctly integrated quotes (go for at least 6!)

Look at your Thesis Underline the subordinate adverbial clause. It should start with until, since, write, when, wherever, assuming that, although, in order that, whereas, so that, even though – a subordinating conjunction!

Thesis statement Put a star over the debatable/opinion/prompt answer part. Number your reasons. If you used the method of not putting specific reasons but a concept, write 1,2,3 over that.

On a piece of scrap paper Write your beautiful thesis. Give it to Ms. Gilliam or I and we will correct and help you with them.

Underline your surreal element… This should look like a freaky metaphor….. If you don’t have one, ADD IT NOW! Think about writing in a dream, a time shift, or an unexpected juxtaposition/non sequitor (this means something random!)

Add a Symbol What is a great symbol for machismo? A sweaty horse? For the surrealism of the novel? A roller coaster? For Pura Vicario, the one most to blame for the death? An embroidered shawl? Now, work it in the introduction – cropping up somewhere in the body paragraphs – and for sure include it to round things out in the conclusion.

This essay should sound a bit like CDF Because you are using 4-5 words from the text! Take out your vocabulary where we collected all the words on Monday and choose some that will fit. Maybe you can use these for your surrealistic element? It is okay to combine!

Now some peer editing! Everyone please take out a piece of paper and put your name on top – List these items that your editors will be commenting on: 1.Find two places where the essay would benefit from more (or less) explanation. Give advice about what to add or subtract. 2.Strike the words YOU, I, THINGS, OKAY, STUFF, or other boring words and give suggestions for replacements. 3.Give a compliment about the paper! 4.Author’s choice – what else would you like your editors to look at?
