Information Management The systematic, imaginative, and responsible management of information so that: –the creation and use of information contributes strategically to the organization's goals –groups and individuals have efficient access to and make effective use of the information they need to do their work and to develop themselves. Treasury Board of Canada This policy statement sets in place the overarching principles and policies to which the Department will adhere in managing its information resources by: –Defining a structure to ensure adequate and appropriate records are maintained; and –Promoting and developing best practice in Records Management by encouraging the use of structured maintenance, retention and disposal systems. University of Kansas Has announced an ambitious plan to develop and carry out a series of steps that will improve our handling and securing of private information, our management of university records, and the preservation of KU’s institutional memory for today’s decision- makers and tomorrow’s scholars. This endeavor will unfold over a period of years rather than months. Training, education, outreach and consulting will be early priorities. A comprehensive program of information asset management, digital archiving and preservation will take longer as we build on many programs and services already in place at KU. The KU Information Management plan includes: –Identification of University information assets –Classification of those information assets to determine management requirements –Development of resources and tools including meaningful policies, procedures, standards, and technology tools; and –Education, training and practical guidelines
