7.North Korea manufactures poor-quality goods in government owned factories 8.Little has been done to diversify the economy. 9.Diversify: add variety to 10.Government briefly opened some private markets in 2004, but still controls the economy 11.Farming methods are outdated North Korea faced a famine and starvation 13.Famine: huge food shortage 14.About 220,000 people died from famine b/w 1995 and Many countries provided have provided humanitarian food aid , the government said that it would stop accepting humanitarian aid.

Years of Tension 1.Koreans hope for the possibility of one country again. 2.Relations b/w the two Koreas have remained tense since the end of the Korean War. 3.North Korea and South Korean troops have had numerous violent clashes. 4.Better relations seemed possible in Leaders of the two countries met in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, and agreed to work toward peace and cooperation.

However, the agreement has not yet been carried out.

The 21 st century will be freedom’s century for all Koreans—and one day every citizen of that peninsula will live in dignity and freedom and prosperity at home, and in peace with their neighbors abroad.
