Burden of occupational diseases Every year people die of work-related diseases in the EU The estimated incidence of occupational diseases in Europe is 30 million cases per year The estimated economic losses amount to more than 800 billion every year (4% of the gross domestic product of the Region)

EU Strategy on occupational health and safety Work-related illness and accidents should be cut by a quarter across the EU: –Improving and simplifying existing legislation and enhancing its implementation –Defining and implementing national strategies –Mainstreaming of health and safety at work in other national and European policy areas (education, public health, research) and finding new synergies –Better identifying and assessing potential new risks through more research, exchange of knowledge and practical application of results
