Project Details: Your English project includes cultural studies and requires you to do research at home. You must bring your research in to class and an exercise book or display folder, which you’ll use to complete and present your project. You will be working on the following questions and tasks during class time and presenting the final product to your class mates for peer grading. However, when writing your story, don’t forget to include an introduction, complication and resolution. It is important to keep your story mysterious, creative and captivating!

Section One Answer the following questions as a full-sentenced answer 1.List the types of celebrations that are held around the world, which are different to what we usually celebrate? e.g. Las Posadas in Mexico. 2.What traditions or ceremonies are usually held during these celebrations? 3.What public holidays do we have in Australia? And why do we celebrate them? 4.Why do schools around the world have holidays at different times?

Section Two Write a Holiday Mystery Story. Include the Following Scenarios in your Narrative: 1.You have won a holiday and must leave Sunday evening. Explain in detail: how you won; where you are going; who you are taking with you. 2.During your stay, you receive an invitation to a special party. Describe what type of party it is; what time the party starts; who invited you? 3.Something happens to you during the party. Describe what happens. 4.You then become lost. Describe how you get lost (use the five senses to explain your experience). 5.You are then rescued. Make sure you include in detail: who rescues you and how you were rescued. 6.Finish your story with a mysterious ending.

Your Project MUST Also Include the Following: 1.A cover page/illustrations 2.A letter explaining that you have won the holiday 3.An invitation to the party 4.A reply to the party 5.A newspaper article about you being lost 6.Anything else you would like to add to your story to make it more creative and captivating

Student Checklist: □ Have you completed Section One? □ Have you included the scenarios in Section Two in your story? □ Is your story a mystery? □ Have you completed a cover page and included illustrations? □ Have you included a letter? □ Have you included an invitation? □ Have you included a reply to the invitation? □ Have you included a newspaper article? □ Have you thought about additional elements to make your story more interesting and captivating for the reader? □ Have you had someone edit your work? Most of all…HAVE FUN & ENJOY THIS CREATIVE WRITING EXPERIENCE!
