Presentation transcript:

1. I will pay close attention while my teacher gives instructions before, during, and after a lab or activity. 2. I will read written directions carefully before I begin. 3. I will perform the lab/activity according to all oral and written directions. 4. I will not perform any unauthorized activities. 5. I will report to my teacher immediately any accident, injury, incorrect procedure, or damaged lab equipment. 6. I will wear safety glasses when indicated by my teacher. 7. I will NOT engage in horseplay or any other off task activity during a lab or activity. 8. I will NOT taste or inhale any substance used in a lab/activity. Science Safety

Students will examine the scientific view of the nature of matter. a. Distinguish between atoms and molecules. b. Describe the difference between pure substances (elements and compounds) and mixtures. c. Describe the movement of particles in solids, liquids, gases, and plasmas states. d. Distinguish between physical and chemical properties of matter as physical (i.e., density, melting point, boiling point) or chemical (i.e., reactivity, combustibility). e. Distinguish between changes in matter as physical (i.e., physical change) or chemical (development of a gas, formation of precipitate, and change in color). f. Recognize that there are more than 100 elements and some have similar properties as shown on the Periodic Table of Elements. g. Identify and demonstrate the Law of Conservation of Matter. Matter Standards (#8 in notebook)
