WHAT DOES THE NUMBER 14 MEAN TO YOU? The average worker will have 14 jobs in his or her working lifetime. LIFT FOR ANSWER

CHANGING JOBS ISN’T A BAD THING BUT WANDERING AIMLESSLY FROM JOB TO JOB CAN BE

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A JOB AND AN CAREER?

CAREER DEFINED -- chosen pursuit: profession or occupation --what you’ve done over the past years and what you plan to do in the future --feeds you & your family tomorrow and beyond

JOB DEFINED --what you are doing today --regular activity performed in exchange for payment --feeds you & your family today

Three simple tips to turn any job into a career

NUMBER 1 Take a vested interest in the company! --give them a reason to value your work, knowledge, and skill. --know the specific regulations, policies, core values, mission, etc. of the employer.

NUMBER 2 Show that you care! --be more than willing to do your part in good and bad times --go the extra mile to cut cost, stay late, forgo a raise, etc.. in bad times --this will be the person the company remembers in good times

NUMBER 3 Be a team player! --go beyond what is expected of you. --take the initiative to do the things, that you know will be asked of you, before it is asked. --If you see an employee swamped, and it is something that you are capable of doing and free to do, help before you are asked.

WHAT ARE THE FIVE BIGGEST TRENDS IMPACTING THE JOB MARKET? You don’t know??? Read on.

1) BABY BOOMERS (1946 – 1964) million Healthy, continued employment into 70’s Will need frequent, medical care Assisted living industry will grow Social workers for less fortunate boomers

2) BETTER MEDICINE better medicines that cure serious diseases vaccinations which prevent many diseases complicated surgeries not as dangerous laser in medicine--make the most precise operations easier to perform.

3) INCREASED COSTS OF CHILD CARE Growth of kindergarten educational programs Demand for highly trained educators Early child education lucrative & stable Highly trained educators = higher salaries Higher salaries = higher child care costs

4) RAPID TECHNOLOGY GROWTH Job security for technology professional over next ten years Companies must provide their teams with the best equipment and resources, or face defeat from within and abroad. IT professional specializing in networking, installation and support in demand

5) DISTRIBUTED WORK Dividing time among multiple locations “Hot Desking”–not giving employees (especially the salespeople) their own desk in the office. A pool of fully equipped desks are provided and occupied as required & where a firm's databases and services can be easily accessed via wireless or telephone links (ex: home) Increased demand for home construction, renovation.
