Services for occupational health

 Under the Ministry of Health, an institute is being develop for medical research purposes. It is INSTITUTE for MEDICAL RESEARCH (IMR).  Under this institute, they develop several unit such as Occupational Health Unit, Health Risk Assessment Unit, Environmental Health Research Centre (EHRC) and also others unit.

 conduct research and provide consultation on occupational diseases and work-related disorders.  established to ensure safe and healthy working conditions through research and dissemination of information, education and training in the field of occupational safety and health.

 The Unit has embarked in researches related to exposure of physical, chemical and biological hazards.  Most of the occupational health matters are being authorized by DOSH and NIOSH. Ministry of health only conduct surveillance to help those departments.

 Hepatitis B Immunizations Program ◦ For healthcare worker was launched as early as 1989 which further enhanced in ◦ The worker are screened first for their antibody status ◦ Immunization screening is done to unsure the immunity status of the healthcare worker.

 Sharps Injury Surveillance Program ◦ Program for the notifications and management of staff who encounter sharps injuries in work places. ◦ Aimed for gathering data on the sharps injuries among health care workers and developing sharps injury registry.

 24 OH Clinics Operational ◦ Located in the existing health clinics as well as in two hospital ◦ Clinics can provide health care services:  Medical surveillance to MOH’s laboratory  Vector  Radiology staff ◦ Medical examination, X-Ray, audiometry, spirometry and laboratory investigation are provided for workers.

 Several promotional activities on OSH ◦ Talks ◦ Seminar ◦ Continuous Professional Development Sessions ◦ Training courses

 Further development ◦ OSH units are proposed to be established in state hospitals under the one care system by 2020.
