Comenius preparatory meeting in Italy, november 2010

1. Earth Observation: the relation between satellite and GLOBE student measurements (weather and climate, aerosols). The following institutes have the intention to cooperate: European Space Agency (ESA), the Dutch Meteorological Society (KNMI) and CNR (Italy). 2. Phenology: students investigate the relation between weather, climate and nature. Cooperation with European institutes like Universities in Wageningen(NL), Toledo (Esp).

Concrete objectives:  To have students understand how climate differs from weather  To improve students understanding and awareness of climate impact  To involve students in hands-on research activities in line with Globe protocols: Weather and Climate, Phenology, Aerosol, Remote sensing, Urban Heat Island.  To have students exchange data in various ways: through an internet database, webconferences, personal meetings.  To have students prepare research reports for dissemination.  To test learning materials and to explore the possibilities to use them in the curricula in different European countries.  To increase active EU and global citizenship skills by informing the community, administrations and municipalities about results of the students'research on climate issues.  To increase climate consciousness of European citizens through schools.  To promote on European level the maximum of participation at the Youth Summit in The Netherlands.
