What is a dog park? A dog park is a park for dogs to exercise and play off-leash in a controlled environment under the supervision of their owners.parkdogs

Dog Parks are for people too!

Why do we need dog parks? Provides an opportunity for dog owners to socialize, meet new friends with similar interest: dogs Provides a safe, fenced-in area to let your dog run, socialize and play, unleashed – legally A social and exercised dog makes a better neighbor, barks less, less aggressive, more tolerant, friendlier Prevents off-leash dogs from running loose and infringing on the rights of others, such as children or those fearful of dogs Promotes responsible pet ownership by enforcement of dog control laws, licensing and shots, making for safer, healthier neighborhoods Great outdoor family activity, encourages an active lifestyle Gives persons with limited mobility, or the elderly, the opportunity to allow their dogs to get exercise, or watch dogs at play Provides a place for animal related events, demonstrations, and adoptions Makes your community more attractive to those people and businesses that want to relocate here Most large cities have at least one dog park and soon realize they need many more; it is almost expected of a city

Who will police the dog park? You will! Dog park users generally take pride in their dog parks and will follow the rules. If help is needed, call the proper authorities.

How can I be sure dog park dogs are healthy? Veterinarian records will need to be shown to get a special tag that must be worn on the collar. There will be a small fee for this annual tag. New electronic ideas may be forthcoming.

What about dogs fighting? When dogs are not on their own territory they don’t act territorial and aggressive When dogs aren’t tethered to you by a leash they don’t feel they have to protect you; leashed dogs feel vulnerable causing aggression

Being designed now! Lloyd Overdyke is the Landscape Architect, we’re looking for your ideas, “SPEAK”!
